Detecting & Testing the pi-topSPEAKER in your pi-top[3]

Terminal commands and checks you can make to detect and test your pi-topSPEAKER is working on your pi-top[3]

Detecting the pi-top Speaker

To check your pi-top[3] is detecting your pi-topSPEAKER, insert your pi-topSPEAKER and then enter the following command into the terminal:

i2c detect -y

 

Next, hover your cursor over the speaker icon found on the dashboard and right-click. You will see options for Analog and HMDI. Select the HDMI option

 

Testing your pi-top Speaker

Insert your pi-topSPEAKER and then hover your cursor over the speaker icon found on the dashboard. Right-click over the speaker icon where you will see options for Analog and HMDI. Select the HDMI option.

Next, test the pi-topSPEAKER by entering the following command in the terminal: 

speaker-test -c2

 

The test will generate a continuous tone. You will need to turn the test off by typing 'Ctrl C'.

Avoid damage by not removing your pi-topSPEAKER whilst the test is running.

 

Note: Only the pi-topSPEAKER V2 is compatible with the pi-top[3]
