Why are pi-top [3]s only available in bright green?

The bright green colour proved a hit with young learners, and helped pi-top [3] stand out in the classroom!

The pre-launch prototype of the very first pi-top came in a variety of colours, before we eventually settled on a black version or a bright green version for the pi-top 1. We kept this dual colour option for our next product, pi-top CEED. 

However, the black versions just didn’t sell as well as the green ones. not only that, but keeping two colour options increases not only manufacturing costs, but also support and logistics.

So by the time pi-top [3] came along, we decided to just offer the green version. Furthermore, the bright green colour also proved a hit with young learners, and helped pi-top [3] stand out in the classroom. You can see more on the history of our products on our blog here. 

Will pi-top [4] come in different colours? 

With pi-top [4], we wanted to have a more mature look and feel, as well as a product that led our branding refresh, so pi-top will only come in dark grey. We’ve kept a little of the green DNA though, just darkening it down a bit.
