Using AI to Remix Curriculum Content

🚀 Launching Soon! This feature will be publicly released in the next few weeks.

What is the Lesson Remixer?

The Lesson Remixer is an AI-powered tool that helps teachers adapt any existing Further lesson to their specific needs—instead of building one from scratch. Whether you need to…

  • Adjust reading level
  • Shorten or lengthen to fit class time
  • Swap in examples tied to local context, student interests, or career paths
  • Highlight the “big picture” or related job opportunities
  • Convert to another instructional model (e.g. 5E, flipped classroom, design thinking)
  • Translate to another language

…you start from a high-quality, expert-created lesson in the Further library and the Remixer does the heavy lifting. Please note that the tool is a creative assistant, not a replacement. You review and refine every output to make it your own.

Enabling & Access

  1. Start with an editable lesson: Choose one of your own lessons under My Content, or clone any public Further lesson.
  2. Enter Edit mode: On the lesson page, select Edit▼ (not Preview) to reveal the Remix button.
  3. Remix: Enter your instructions, then click Remix and let AI generate a draft.

Example prompts to ask the Remixer

      1. “Shorten to 30 minutes and swap in examples using local wildlife.”
      2. “Raise reading level to Grade 10 and highlight career paths in renewable energy.”
      3. “Convert to a flipped-classroom model with two code-based activities.”
      4. “Translate into Spanish and include examples tied to our school’s local industries.”
      5. “Extend the lesson by adding a group project on design thinking.”
      6. “Meet NGSS standards for middle school physics and simplify vocabulary.”
      7. “Adjust for neurodiverse learners: add clear section headers, visual workflow diagrams, and short-answer checkpoints after every 5 minutes of content.”
      8. “Use a competency-based framework and include self-assessment questions.”
      9. “Incorporate social-emotional learning prompts around teamwork.”
      10. “Reflect my maker-focused style: include a hands-on engineering challenge using recycled materials and student-led prototyping.”

Real‑world Example: Teaching Ratios Using Agriculture

Suppose you need a math lesson on ratios for an agricultural STEM unit.

Step 1: Find an existing lesson
Search for “ratios” in the Further library. You’ll see The Ecosystem Equation, which illustrates ratio concepts in an ecological context.

Step 2: Clone and edit

      • Click the Clone button to copy the lesson

      • Select Edit to show the Remixer

      • Enter a prompt such as:
“Can you retheme this lesson so it’s based on agriculture, please?”

Then press Remix and wait - it can take up to a minute or longer for large lessons.

Step 3: Review the AI draft

Once Remix finishes, you’ll see:

      • Your original prompt at the top, ready for refinement

      • A concise summary of exactly what was changed

      • An Undo button to revert to the previous version instantly

Step 4: Finalize and publish.
Tweak any remaining details manually, use Remix again to iterate, or publish directly to your course or class.

✨ Check out the result of this real example in Further: Farming Smarter with Math.

What AI-powered edits can you ask for?

Use the Remixer to tailor any lesson in ways that matter most to you and your students:

  • Change reading level or language
  • Align to alternate standards (TEKS, NGSS, ISTE, your local curriculum)
  • Add assessments and rubrics (formative, summative, peer-based)
  • Differentiate content with scaffolding or by breaking modules into step-by-step sections
  • Customize examples for available materials, local topics, student interests, or careers
  • Change theme or subject focus (e.g. linear equations → budgeting scenarios)
  • Shorten, extend, or restructure duration
  • Add/remove interactivity, code tasks, images, real-world data, simulations, or 3D-printing
  • Swap in/downplay/extend content to meet specific standards
  • Write or rewrite lesson descriptions and safety procedures
  • Emphasize vocabulary, highlight keywords in bold

Key Benefits

  • Focused creativity: Spend time fine-tuning rather than inventing from zero
  • Fast edits: AI works off a lesson that’s already high quality, so fewer iterations are needed
  • Reliable quality: The Remixer is designed to meet national standards, Further’s ethos, and inquiry-based learning principles
  • Customizable: Tailor for individual classes or whole schools, without losing consistency

Usage Limits & Costs

There is no additional charge for using the Remixer. However, to keep performance smooth, we limit the Remixer per user and per school license. You’ll see your remaining quota in the Remix dialog footer. Once you hit your limit, you can continue the next day or ask your admin about a larger school license.

Best Practices

  • Start from the Further library: every lesson there is expert-created and vetted
  • Be specific in your prompt: more detail → fewer follow-ups
  • Leverage standard alignment: instruct AI to meet local standards or your curriculum
  • Bridge the generational gap: use examples relevant to students’ daily experiences
  • Link to wider curriculum: include topics taught simultaneously in other subjects
